Neonatal Resuscitation In All Birth Settings
The NICE guideline – Intrapartum care (NG235) – states that in all birth settings it must be ensured that there are facilities for resuscitation and for transferring the baby to another location if necessary.
The NICE guideline NG235 recommends that in the first minutes after birth the condition of the baby should be evaluated, specifically in relation to respiration, heart rate and tone. This is in order to determine whether resuscitation is needed, according to nationally accredited guidelines on neonatal resuscitation.
If a newborn baby needs basic resuscitation, NICE recommends starting with air. Separation of the baby and mother should be minimised, taking into account the clinical circumstances. Throughout an emergency situation in which the baby needs resuscitation, a member of the healthcare team should be allocated to talk with, and offer support to, the woman and any birth companion(s).
NICE recommends all relevant healthcare professionals caring for women during birth should annually attend a course in neonatal resuscitation that is consistent with nationally accredited guidelines on neonatal resuscitation.

As efficiency is particularly critical during neonatal resuscitation, the Comen BQ80 infant radiant warmer has been designed to integrate four core functions into one platform, to help healthcare teams easily respond to urgent medical needs. Being a 4-in-1 warmer, the Comen BQ80 is a combined resuscitation, radiant warming, monitoring and phototherapy device. The monitoring option can capture the vital signs and waveforms of newborns in real time during resuscitation. This enables medical teams to evaluate and decide if the resuscitation measures being carried out are effective.
When babies require observation in an intermediate care unit, Weyer Thermocare warming beds provide a thermally stable environment, ideal to support the development of neonates. Weyer Thermocare’s modular design enables the different units of the warming system to be individually configured, to meet specific care requirements.
