Preventing Paediatric Pressure Injuries With Action®

Exclusively available in the UK from Central Medical Supplies (CMS), the Action® range of pressure ulcer prevention products can be used to help prevent paediatric pressure injuries.

The paediatric surgical patient, like any other surgical patient, can be vulnerable to pressure ulcers. Reducing pressure injury development in the paediatric surgical patient can be challenging, especially when there is a diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD) coupled with open-heart surgery.  Paediatric patients with CHD are likely to have lower oxygen saturation and altered nutritional status so they may be at higher risk of experiencing skin breakdown.1  The addition of a major cardiac surgery to the CHD diagnosis creates a twofold pressure ulcer risk for the patient.

Action Products is a pioneer in reusable pads and positioning products and its pressure relief products help to prevent pressure sores. Action Products uses its proprietary, Akton®  viscoelastic polymer for its pressure ulcer prevention products. This unique AKTON polymer is designed to redistribute pressure, mitigate shear forces and is clinically proven to help reduce the risk of pressure injuries.

AKTON polymer is reusable and cost effective.  The polymer does not support bacterial growth and is not made with natural rubber latex. It is hypo-allergenic and will not leak or flow if punctured.

The ACTION range of paediatric products includes a Forehead Protector, a Paediatric Head Pad with Centre Dish and a Paediatric Positioner Set. The Forehead Protector is intended to protect an infant’s forehead from pressure exerted by oxygen tubes.  The Paediatric Head Pad with Centre Dish can be used to help protect the occiput, neck, head or ears of a patient, as required.  The Paediatric Positioner Set is a versatile 4-piece set designed to position and protect newborns and infants during a variety of procedures.
